Pewter to Poppies finished.

Hi all,

Managed to squeak my contribution to our Pewter to Poppies fundraiser for the Wounded Warrior fund in just under the wire; I finished the flocking this afternoon while my daughter napped.

021

I'm reasonably please with how it turned out.  It's mounted on a 40x40 mm base, suitable as a command stand in most games that use them.

020

I did my best to make it a little scene, with the Hussar pointing out some detail to a higher commander.  The former is of the 7th, the mounted officer and infantry division commander, although he's a bit presumptuous in his hat plumes.

019

I tried to bring out a bit of detail on what are some rather nice sculpts.  I'm pleased with the lacing on the mounted officer's wrists, and the horse really is a nice sculpt; Italeri do them well.

The next step will be to put up this, along with the other contributions, on Ebay, probably starting towards the end of the week.  I'll be promoting the auction here and elsewhere when it starts, so stay tuned.  There's some nice figures up for grabs, and the money goes to a good cause.

P2P Update, and a thank-you.

Hi,

Got in some more work on the figures for our Pewter to Poppies submission.

002

Mostly detail work at this stage, as the main colours are blocked in.  The lacing on the mounted general is going to be a bit of a headache.

003

In other news, I received a package in the mail a few days back, and inside was this:

It's the book I won from Jonathan's give-away at the Palouse Journal.  It actually turns out to be a little different than I expected.  What I thought it would be was a fairly standard "here's the places we keep fighting" survey (Fulda gap, Syria, etc.), but instead, it offers a survey of terrain types.  There are short chapters on, say, a river crossing, or woods, or jungle, a discussion of the impact of that terrain on how combat can occur, and then an illustrative case example.  Interesting reading, with lots of lavish illustrations and maps.  Many thanks to Jonathan for the book, I'm enjoying it.

Pewter to Poppies, WiP 1

Hi all,

Got in a little work on the P2P project last night.  As I mentioned in my last post, some of us at the THMG are doing a fundraiser for Remembrance Day.  Each of us is painting a figure or small vignette, and we'll sell them off via a joint ebay account after Nov. 11th.  I've opted for a 1/72 Napoleonic French command stand.

001

The plan is to have the two of these based fairly closely to each other.  I kind of imagine an officer of Hussars assuring the general that yes, indeed, the ford is over that hill.

003

O'm reasonably pleased with how the Hussar is coming along, but the mounted officer's a bit dodgy.  I think he needs eyebrows to define his face, but at this scale, I'm not sure if I can pull them off.

More updates to come, and check out the http://www.torontohmg.org/>club page
for updates and info on the other painters.
